H.E. Mao Ayuth was born on 8 July 1944 in Kampong Cham. He moved to Phnom Penh and lived with his uncle who is also a famous Cambodian a...uthor by the name of Peou Sipho. It was during this time at Sisowath High School that his interest in writing developed. From 1963 to 1965 he underwent training as a script writer. Upon completion, he joined TVRK as Floor Director and eventually was promoted to Program Director in 1975.
In 1979, he joined the Ministry of Culture and Information as Deputy Director of the Cinema Department until 1992 when he became Deputy General Director of the National & Television of Kampuchea. In 1994, he was appointed General Director of the National Television of Cambodia.
Actually, he is the Secretary of State in the Ministry of Information and President of the Association of Television Stations of Cambodia.
H.E. Mao Ayuth is a producer and scrip writer. He also writes lyrical, epistle and satirical poetry.
He produced 9 films ; Beut Phnek Hek Troung 1973, Chet Chong Cham 1989, Chong Srol 1990, Chhaoeung Andeth 1991, Klin Del Rasay 1991, Andat Dos Chhoeung 1992, Cheung Mek Dach Sroyal 1992, Samdey Chong Kroy 1992, and Nesat Kropeu 2006.
H.E. Mao Ayuth was invited to be a member of the jury at the Documentary Film Festival held in Leipzig, Germany in 1981 and also at the International Teenagers Film Festival in Moscow in both 1982 and 1984.
In 2001, he got The Southeast Asian Writer Award.
